Outpost
Sometimes I hate writing reviews. Let me explain.
Every once and a while (and these are truly rare), I come across a movie that I have never heard of before. Haven't seen the trailer, don't know the actors, ain't heard jack-boo about the production. Yet, here I found myself throwing Outpost into my DVD player, completely unaware of what was about to occur and with about as much excitement as my grandfather has for every new Miley Cyrus CD release. Boy, was I wrong. Outpost surrounds a group of mercenaries that find an old World War II bunker that was used for Nazi experiments. But what they thought was an abandoned shelter ends up housing some ghastly characters inside that look to have survived the war and a group of soldiers patrolling the perimeter that seem committed to keeping the secret safe. Back to why I sometimes I hate writing reviews. I loved this film. It was like taking Dog Soldiers and The Keep and pushing them together with a story that had me guessing where the film was headed (are there ghosts? Who are those people they keep shooting at and why won't they die?). It is not often that films of the genre don't have me one chapter ahead in correct guesses as to where the plot is headed, but Outpost was one bloody surprise after another. And this is why I don't want to tell you much about it. It's a gem
that you will probably appreciate more the less you know. Copyright © Greg Roberts |
